Broumov group of churches

Broumov Monastery

The churches of the so-called “Broumov group of churches” were built on the territory of the Broumov monastic land in accordance, with one exception, with the projects of the best known architects of their time, Christoph Dientzenhofer (one example can be the church of St. Nicolas on Malostranské náměstí in Prague) and his son Kilian Ignaz. The churches were built in a relatively short interval of time, in the period between 1690 and 1743 due to the large expansion of cultural construction initiated mainly by the abbot of the Benedictine order Otmar Zinke.

Nine rural baroque churches in total create an extraordinary and in many ways a unique monumental and architectural complex, which is deservedly considered to be an architectural gem because of its completeness and extent not only in the Czech Republic. Nevertheless even singularly the churches can be considered as a baroque treasure.
