Csoltmonostor
Csoltmonostor is a ruins site located in Békés County. The original abbey was founded in the early twelfth century by the Csolt kindred. It was dedicated to All Saints and was constructed on top of an older church, however by 1383 the site was abandoned.
Later, the church of the abbey was used as the parish church of the village, but the structure collapsed in 1786. Parts of the building complex were used as building materials for the new palace of the Wenckheim family built nearby. In the nineteenth century a wine cellar was built on the same site of the abbey at the top of the hill. The site and the ruins are now the part of the Vésztő-Mágor Historical Memorial Place and has had a visitor center since 1982. It is currently under natural and archaeological heritage protection.
