St. Hypolit monastery in Nitra on the hill Zobor

The Monastery of St. Hyppolitus on the Mount Zobor near Nitra was one of the most significant ecclesiastical institutions till the 13th century in the territory of  present-day Slovakia and the Kingdom of Hungary. It was destroyed like many other monasteries in the Kingdom of Hungary in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. No masonry above the ground level of the medieval Benedictine monastery remains. Only the ruins of the Camaldolese monastery, built at the site in the 18th century, are visible. Today, the site is a part of the hospital for respiratory diseases founded in the 20th century.
