Monastery

The Monastery of St. Hyppolitus on the Mount Zobor near Nitra was one of the most significant ecclesiastical institutions till the 13^th century in the territory of  present-day Slovakia and the Kingdom of Hungary. It was destroyed like many other monasteries in the Kingdom of Hungary in the late 15^th and early 16^th centuries. No masonry above the ground level of the medieval Benedictine monastery remains. Only the ruins of the Camaldolese monastery, built at the site in the 18^th century, are visible. Today, the site is a part of the hospital for respiratory diseases founded in the 20^th century.
